SUNYAC announces Women's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the winners for Women's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week. This week's winners were chosen out of nominations from across the conference. 

Annie Casey, goalie from Cortland, has been chosen as the SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week. Casey helped lead the 16th-ranked Red Dragons (4-1) to a pair of neutral-site wins last week, posting a 2-0 record with a 7.53 GAA, 15 saves, a .517 save percentage and eight ground balls. In a 16-8 victory against 19th-ranked Catholic on Wednesday, Casey made 11 saves and collected three ground balls. In an 18-6 victory over previously unbeaten Roger Williams on Saturday, she stopped four shots and scooped up five ground balls in 51:30.

Cortland's Lexie Meager has been chosen as the Offensive Athlete of the Week. The Syracuse native led the 16th-ranked Red Dragons to two neutral-site wins last week as the team improved to 4-1 on the season. She totaled 14 points on 12 goals and two assists, eight draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. In a 16-8 victory over 19th-ranked Catholic on Wednesday, Meager tallied a career-high eight points on a career-best seven goals and one assist, adding three ground balls and one draw and caused turnover. She then scored six points on five goals and one assist, secured seven draws and one ground ball and caused two turnovers in an 18-6 win versus previously undefeated Roger Williams on Saturday. For the season, Meager leads Cortland in scoring with 25 points on a team-best 22 goals and three assists.
