UNDER ARMOUR AD OF THE YEAR AWARD RELEASE
CLEVELAND – SUNY Geneseo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Mooney was named a recipient of the 2019 Under Armour AD of the Year Award, announced Wednesday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Mooney will receive the award during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon on June 11 at NACDA's 54th-Annual Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla. The award highlights the efforts of athletic directors at all levels for their commitment and positive contributions to student-athletes, campuses and their surrounding communities.
Mooney is in his eighth year as the Knights' director of athletics and has been a member of the college's community for 32 years after also serving as the Knights' men's soccer coach for 26 seasons.
Under his watch, the department has experienced unprecedented success and growth. The Knights finished 11th in the 2017-18 Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings, which measure the overall excellence of the 450 Division III athletic programs in the country. Also the highest ranked public institution, it was Geneseo's best finish ever and marked the sixth-straight time the program moved up compared to the previous year. Geneseo also won its fourth-consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup, awarded to the top overall program in the league, after winning a record 13 out of a possible 19 conference championships. Through the completion of the winter season, the Knights have won eight more conference titles in 2018-19.
