CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its weekly awards for women's volleyball. Athletes from Geneseo were selected, with junior Grace Cergol tabbed as Offensive Athlete of the Week, and junior Sam Mendelsohn taking the honors as Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Cergol averaged a double-double in kills and digs to lead the Knights to a 4-0 week, including a three-match sweep in SUNYAC Pool Play. She started with 16 kills and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over visiting Alfred on Tuesday. Cergol then notched 14 kills and nine digs along with three blocks as Geneseo swept two-time defending SUNYAC Champion Brockport on Friday. She wrapped up the weekend with 11 kills and eight digs in a sweep of Cortland before adding 15 kills and 14 digs in a victory over host Buffalo State on Saturday. She currently leads the SUNYAC with 259 kills and 4.18 kills/set.
Meanwhile, Mendelsohn anchored the Knights with 21 digs and added two service aces as they limited two-time defending conference champion Brockport to a -.008 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep, Friday. She then added 13 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Cortland and 11 digs and three service aces in a 3-0 win over host Buffalo State on Saturday.
