
Geneseo Athletics Hosts Section V Leadership Summit

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation hosted the annual Section V Leadership Summit, Tuesday, for the local area high school students. This year's event was titled, "Inspirational Leadership."
More than 300 high school student-athletes and coaches participated in the summit. The student-athletes were paired with Geneseo student-athletes in discussion groups and participated in cooperative games while the coaches attended panel discussions regarding sportsmanship, leadership and a proactive approach to coaching. Erica Ebert, an instructional specialist at Webster Central Schools spoke to coaches and administrators in a presentation titled, "Mindfulness for Athletes," discussing the idea of being mindful, and how it can positively impact the student-athlete.
Both groups convened in the College Union Ballroom and concluded the afternoon by listening to special guest speaker, former Kansas State University and NFL running back Tony Jordan, who grew up in Rochester, N.Y. competing in Section V. Jordan discussed what it takes to become an inspirational leader. Geneseo graduate and former basketball standout Scott Fitch '93 also delivered a presentation at the summit, speaking on social media awareness titled, "Pause Before you Post."
