Cortland's Joe Brown Named ABCA New York Region Coach of the Year

Cortland Sports Information Department

Cortland baseball head coach Joe Brown has been selected as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III New York Region Coach of the Year. Brown won the award for the 11th time overall and the first time since 2015.

Brown, who also was named the D3baseball.com New York Region Coach of the Year a few weeks ago, led the Red Dragons to the program's 19th 30-win season in his 20-year tenure. Cortland finished the season 34-13-1 and earned its 27th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, tying the Division III record for longest NCAA streak with Marietta's 27 straight showings from 1976-2002.

Cortland won an NCAA four-team regional at home with a win over Alvernia and two victories versus Tufts before losing at Babson in a best-of-three super regional to tie for ninth place nationally. Cortland also captured the SUNYAC regular-season title with an 18-0 record and was the only NCAA school at any level to go unbeaten during conference regular-season play.

Brown has a combined record of 748-198-4 (.789) in his 20 seasons as Cortland's head coach. His previous ABCA regional coaching honors came in 2000-01, 2005, 2007-08, 2010-12 and 2014-15. He's also a seven-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year, including this spring.
