GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo will take on Vassar in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament as the 64-team field was announced Monday afternoon.
The Knights will battle the Brewers on Friday, March 1, in a game hosted by Amherst. Amherst will host Husson in the other game in the pod.
Geneseo (23-4) received an at-large bid after falling to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Champion New Paltz, 63-57, in overtime Saturday. Geneseo will be making its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and its fourth in a row.
The Knights fell to Ithaca, 54-47, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season, after earning an automatic bid as 2018 conference champions. Geneseo won two home games to kick off the 2017 tournament two seasons ago, including a 78-72 victory over Rochester to advance to the "Sweet 16" for the second time in three seasons. The Knights have advanced as far as the sectional finals on three occasions, falling to Salem State, 76-65, in 1995, and to Scranton, 79-70, in 1993.
