CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected both the Track and Field Athletes of the Week from Cortland. Sophomore Richard Samuels has earned Track Athete of the Week and junior Wendell Brand earns himself Field Athlete of the Week.
Samuels finished first in a field of 112 runners in the 800 meter at the Widener University Danny Curran Invitational. His time of 1:53.92 ranks fifth nationally in Division III and first in the AARTFC as of Sunday night.
Brand finished first in the triple jump and was second overall (first collegiate finisher) in the long jump at the Widener Danny Curran Invitational. He beat 35 other competitors in the triple jump with a distance of 13.74 meters and recorded a distance of 6.73 meters in a field of 62 competitors in the long jump. Both of his efforts are AARTFC qualifiers.
Both Samuels and Brand helped Cortland finish second out of 29 schools in the final team scoring.
