Game of the Week: Geneseo lacrosse stuns Oneonta in OT

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Game of the Week comes from the men's lacrosse matchup between Geneseo and Oneonta on Saturday, April 6. Geneseo scored three goals with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime where they secured the win 11-10 over the Red Dragons.

Geneseo sophomore midfielder James Pratt (East Fishkill) scored the first goal of the game with 8:28 left in the first quarter before Oneonta closed the quarter with five-straight goals to lead, 5-1 heading into the second period.

Geneseo scored three-straight goals to pull back within one, 5-4, at 7:52 of the second. Oneonta regained a two-goal lead at 4:17, but Pratt's second score with 1:39 on the clock made it a one-goal game, 6-5, at halftime.

Both teams were able to put one on the board in the third. Oneonta kept the lead, 7-6, going into the fourth.

Oneonta came out firing with two quick goals within the first three minutes by Stephen Panno (Holtsville) and Dean Cannon (Clifton Park) to extend the Red Dragons lead to three, 9-6. With 9:52 left in the fourth Geneseo got one back from Matt Malone (Pittsford) to make it 9-7.

Dean Cannon netted his second goal of the game to re-claim a three goal lead, 10-7, with only 4:26 remaining. The Red Dragons were looked confident in closing this game out, however, Geneseo had other plans.

Thanks to three straight face-off wins by Tommy DeVito (Huntington) the Knights came storming back and scored three late goals to tie the game at 10 with 1:28 remaining. The goals came from Malone, Cameron Chiodo (Greenlawn), and DeVito.

In the overtime period Geneseo gained their first lead since midway through the first thanks to a goal from Jake Steffen (Roslyn). The score was 11-10 and that is how the contest ended.

Player of the Game:

First-year midfielder Tommy DeVito is this week's Player of the Game after winning 15 of 16 face-offs as well as scoring the game-tying goal to send it into overtime.
