SUNYAC announces Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the recipient of the Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year award for the 2018-2019 season. Oswego head coach, Ed Gosek, has been chosen to receive this honor as voted on by the conference coaches.
In his 16th season as head coach of the Lakers, Gosek and Oswego finished with an overall record of 19-6-2 and a conference record of 11-4-1. This earned Oswego a No. 2 seeding going into the SUNYAC tournament. The team hosted Plattsburgh in a 3-2 semifinal victory and moved on to a hard fought loss against Geneseo in the SUNYAC Championship.
Gosek has achieved much success in his tenure with Oswego. He has earned a .754 overall win percentage and .718 conference win percentage in his 16 years as head coach. As well, Gosek holds the distinction as being the only coach in Oswego history to guide a team to an NCAA Division III Championship title, capturing the men's ice hockey crown in 2007 with a 23-3-3 overall record.
Gosek and the Lakers received an at-large bid into the 2019 NCAA men's ice hockey tournament and they were also given a bye. They will face the winner of the matchup between Hobart and Plymouth State.
