
Plattsburgh and Cortland players selected as SUNYAC Athlete and Pitcher of the Week
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Plattsburgh's Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and Cortland's Matt Valin (LaFargeville, N.Y.) as the SUNYAC Athlete and Pitcher of the Week.
Keller Kowalowski recorded six hits, five RBIs and one run in the Cardinals' 2-1 weekend against Brockport. Kowalowski drove in the fourth run in their first game on Friday when they won 5-3. In game two, Kowalowski went 3-for-3 at the plate and recorded one RBI off a double and scored the tying run in the seventh after stealing home. Plattsburgh went on to win 4-3 in extra innings. In game three, Kowalowski had three RBIs and two hits in a hard fought 10-9 loss. Kowalowski and the Cardinals head to Oneonta this weekend for a big conference matchup.
Valin allowed only one hit and two walks as he struck out a season-high tying nine batters in six scoreless innings of a seven-inning game as Cortland defeated visiting Oneonta, 7-0. The game was tied at 0-0 until Cortland scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth to give Valin the victory as he improved to 3-0 on the season. The Red Dragons face Fredonia this weekend in a battle to stay undefeated in the conference.
