
Game of the Week: Geneseo defeats Brockport in final seconds to win 77-76
CORTLAND N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Game of the Week was the recent thrilling match up between Geneseo and Brockport men's basketball on Feb. 9. The Golden Eagles of Brockport were in control for most of the game until Terrance Nichols' (New York Mills/New York Mills), this week's Athlete of the Week, late game heroics that included a game-tying three pointer and game-winning free throw that led the Knights to victory.
Game Facts
1st Half
Brockport started off hot jumping out to a 15-6 lead in the first eight minutes of the game, but the Knights were able to close the gap to two points after a pair of made free throws by sophomore forward Alex Merhige (Greenlawn/Harborfields). After a close few minutes, the Golden Eagles would soon extend their lead to 10, their largest of the game, with 5:28 to go in the half. Geneseo tried to make the comeback more manageable as Brockport went into the half leading by seven, 36-29.
2nd Half
The Knights would be within 10 points for the majority of the second half consistently cutting the deficit down but not being able to take the lead over the Golden Eagles. Geneseo would trail by as much as nine, 73-64, with only 2:23 remaining in the game. A three-pointer by Nichols followed by a made jumper by sophomore forward Joseph Harclerode III (Sayville/Sayville) would cut the lead to four points with 1:30 to go. Terrance Nichols put away two free throws to get the Knights within three, 76-73, with 25 seconds left on the clock. A clutch steal from first-year guard Michael Gannon (Smithtown/Smithtown West) would lead to a game-tying three by Nichols with 12 seconds left to play. On the final possession, Brockport would miss a three-point attempt and Nichols would come up with the rebound and get fouled with 0.9 seconds remaining. Nichols would seal the deal with a made free throw to give Geneseo the win 77-76.

Terrance Nichols hit the game-tying three and game-winning free throw while also being the top scorer of the game with 25 points.
