
Lee and Vadala earn women's swimming and diving weekly honors
CORTLAND N.Y. - New Paltz senior Nicole Lee (Farmingdale, NY) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Swimmer of the Week and Geneseo sophomore Alyssa Vadala (Liverpool, N.Y.) as the Diver of the Week. The honor is for competition the week of Jan. 21-27.
In Lee's last ever meet in Elting Pool Saturday, she led New Paltz women's swimming to a 113-85 win over Catskill Cup rival Oneonta. Lee started the day by anchoring the Hawks' 400 yard medley relay team to an Elting Pool record time of (3:58.63 seconds), shattering the previous record that stood since 2012. She then broke an individual pool record in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.87 seconds and was just a tenth of a second away on setting another pool record in the 100 yard freestyle after clocking in with a winning time of 53.35 seconds.
Vadala helped the Knights defeat No. 17 Case Western Reserve on Monday and knock off Rochester on Friday. She earned a pair of wins in the one-meter, scoring 304.57 in a six-dive format on Monday and then recording a first-place score of 478.85 in eleven dives on Friday. Vadala took second on both days in the three meter, scoring 267.00 in six dives on Monday and 525.55 in eleven dives on Friday.
