SUNYAC announces Men's Lacrosse Athlete and Goalie of the Week
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Oswego's Evan Hollfelder (Hamburg, N.Y.) as Athlete of the Week and Cortland's Jon Vargas (West Islip) as Goalie of the Week.
After seeing a four-goal lead cut to 12-11 against four-time NEAC Champion Morrisville State early in the fourth quarter, Hollfelder scored a goal and assisted on two others, including the game-winner, to propel Oswego to the victory. Hollfelder currently leads Oswego with eight points on three goals and five assists through two games. Hollfelder and the Lakers are 2-0 on the season and will travel to St. John Fisher this Saturday (3/16) with a start time of 12:00 p.m.
In his first start as a Red Dragon, Vargas registered 17 saves and three ground balls and allowed just five goals in 56:18 of action in a 13-7 home win versus Nazareth on Saturday. Vargas recorded a .772 save percentage and a 5.33 GAA in helping Cortland earn its first win of the season. The Red Dragons are away at Morrisville State this Tuesday (3/12) with a 3:30 p.m. start.
