Men's Swimming and Diving Yearly Awards Announced
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the 2019 SUNYAC Men's swimming and diving annual awards. Each year the conference coaches vote on these awards to honor the SUNYAC Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, and Rookie of the Year.
Swimmer of the Year – Clark Davis, Geneseo
In his final season, the Geneseo Knight, Clark Davis (Niskayuna, N.Y.) has been named SUNYAC Swimmer of the Year. The senior Knight placed first in three separate events at the SUNYAC championships. Davis placed first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.24. He swam 4:04.23 in the 400 individual medley also good enough for a first place finish. In the 200 breaststroke, Davis took home gold with a time of 2:06.37. He helped his team win it's sixth consecutive SUNYAC championship title.
Diver of the Year - Corey Wirth, Geneseo
After a stellar first year Corey Wirth (Lima, N.Y.) has been named Diver of the Year. In the 1-meter dive at the SUNYAC championship meet, Wirth finished first with a score of 493.40. He was named to the All-SUNYAC first team and his mark qualified him for NCAA regionals. Wirth placed third in the men's 1-meter dive with a score of 479.75 at NCAA regionals to earn a trip to the national championships. In the 1-meter dive prelims Wirth scored 337.70 earning him 24th place overall.
Rookie of the Year – Sean McClellan, Geneseo
After an impressive first collegiate season, freshman Sean McClellan (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), has been named Rookie of the Year. The freshman Knight had a stellar first year posting four top-3 finishes at the SUNYAC championship meet. He helped his team place first in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:51.17, this time also broke the meet record. McClellan swam an impressive 4:39.46 in the 500 freestyle placing him first. He placed third in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:32.25. McClellan also placed third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.82. The freshman helped his team win the 2019 SUNAYAC championship meet for the sixth consecutive championship title.
