Brockport's Kretzler and McGowan announced as PrestoSports Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces Brockport's Tom Kretzler and Matt McGowan as its PrestoSports Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week.

Kretzler recently helped the Golden Eagles finish 5-0 this past week with wins over St. John Fisher (16-5), Rochester (N.Y.) (14-1), and a weekend SUNYAC series sweep of New Paltz, G1-(7-3), G2-(14-4), G3-(5-0). Kretzler finished the week going 12-19 at the plate with 11/12 hits being extra-base hits. He hit a total of seven home runs, three doubles, and one triple while batting .632. He drew a total of four walks while not striking out at all over the course of five games while scoring 13 times and driving in a total of 17 RBIs and 38 total bases. He recorded a 2.000 slugging percentage and a .696 on-base percentage. Not only did Kretzler bat, but in what might have been his last time as a player in a game at the Clark V. Whited Baseball Complex, he also recorded a win on the mound in game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. Pitching against the Hawks on the Golden Eagles' senior day, Kretzler tallied four strikeouts while throwing four scoreless innings in the teams 14-4 win. In the same game he went 4-4 at the plate recording three home runs, seven RBIs, and a double. His four home runs on Saturday alone between both games put Kretzler at 34 career home runs, a program record he's held since hitting 21 career home runs last season. His 13 home runs this season puts him with the most in the SUNYAC and gives him the record for most home runs in a single season which was previously 10 and set in 1991.

McGowan of the Brockport Golden Eagles recorded his second complete-game shutout of the season in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against his hometown New Paltz Hawks. An Arlington, NY native, McGowan would dominate on the mound in the team's 5-0 victory over the Hawks which saw the right-hander tally career-high numbers in innings pitched (9), strikeouts (10), Walks (low) 0, and hits (low) 4. all while only throwing a total of 89 pitches. McGowan now improves to 3-1 this season and has thrown a total of 37.2 innings while holding a 3.82 ERA.
