Regionals Day 2 Recap - Oswego Baseball

AMBLER, P.A.  –  The Oswego State Baseball took a 10-7 loss against the #1 seeded Knights of Arcadia. The game had about an hour delay due to the marathon of a game that happened just previous to the Lakers vs. Knights. With this loss the Lakers moved to the elimination bracket to face the Husson Eagles. This game was back and forth and was suspended in the beginning of the eighth inning due to darkness. The game will resume in the morning at approximately 10am, the winner of this game will take on the Arcadia Knights for the Regional Championship.

Final Score: Arcadia 10 , Oswego State 7 | Oswego State 9 ,  Husson 8 (suspended in top 8th)

Records: #2 Oswego State 30-10 (1-1 Regional Round), #1 Arcadia 40-7 (2-0 Regional Round)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1 vs. Arcadia

  • In the first three innings the Lakers and Knights were playing sound defense retiring eighteen of the first 21 batters faced.
  • The Knights drew first blood in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run homerun. 
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning the Lakers fired back. 
  • Kyle Lauria ripped a bouncer off of the mound to reach safely at first and scored Lukas Olsson
  • Tishawn Featherstone then tied the contest with an RBI single, scoring Lauria. The score rested at 2-2 at the end of the fourth inning. 
  • Arcadia added three runs in the top of the fifth innings to give them the 5-2 lead. 
  • The game went scoreless until the top of the seventh innings where the Knights added two insurance runs, taking their lead to five runs (7-2). 
  • In the top of the eighth inning, the Knights found themselves with bases loaded and one out. 
  • Jake Danyluk came in and got out of the inning for the Lakers grounding into a double play. 
  • In the bottom of the eighth inning the Lakers' leadoff hitter Paul Tammaro got on by a hit by pitch, Ryan Enos then singled to third base by the way of a bunt.
  • Lauria brought the Lakers within two runs with a three-run homerun to the opposite field.
  • In the top of the ninth inning the Knights added another three runs bringing their lead back to five runs. 
  • In the bottom of the ninth the Lakers took back two runs by way of an Enos homerun, scoring McCarthy after his double. 
  • The Lakers were unable to mount the comeback, falling 10-7. 

Game 2 vs. Husson (suspended after 7th inning) Will resume at 10am tomorrow morning. 

  • The Lakers got things started in fashion as they put on five straight batters. Tammaro singled by a bunt, Enos doubled down the left field line, Ryan Weiss singled to left field and Jacob Levine singled to center field. 
  • Enos' double scored Tammaro and added the Lakers first run. 
  • Weiss's single added the Lakers second run of the inning. 
  • Featherstone with a sacrifice fly to left field brought in Weiss from third, pushing the lead to three runs. 
  • In the third inning the Eagles added five hits and left the inning in the lead 4-3. 
  • Featherstone led off in the fourth inning and took the lead away from Husson with a solo homerun, tying the contest at four. 
  • Julian Drew then kept the momentum rolling in the Lakers direction with a single to left field. 
  • McCarthy was then hit by a pitch, putting Drew on second. 
  • Tammaro then singled by a bunt to the pitcher, loading the bases.
  •  Enos scored Drew from third base to take the lead.
  • Lauria then came up to bat and roped one to center field, earning two RBI's. Tammaro and McCarthy scored. This gave the Lakers the 7-4 lead. 
  • Husson then added three runs of their own to take the lead away from the Lakers. 
  • Husson added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking the 8-7 lead. 
  • After a Drew single, CJ McCarthy homered to right field to regain the lead by a score of 9-8. 
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning the Lakers held the Eagles to no runs and this is where we will resume play tomorrow with the Lakers up to bat. Enos will be the first batter for the Lakers tomorrow along with Nick Swift for the Eagles.
