SUNYAC Releases Men's Indoor Track & Field Annual Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the 2022 Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie, and Coaching Staff of the Year awards as voted on by the conference coaches.

Men's Track Athlete of the Year - Kieran Sheridan, Geneseo
Sheridan is the 2022 NCAA Division III men's 400 meter national champion finishing the race in a time of 48.36. He also anchored the 4x400 relay to a third place finish at the NCAAs with his 47.6 split being the fastest of any competitor. In the SUNYAC championship, Sheridan set a meet record to finish first in the 400 meter with a time of 48.25 earning the conference crown. He was also named SUNYAC Track Athlete of the Week twice this season. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Year - Aidan Kelly, Oneonta
Kelly set a personal-best mark of 4,313 points in the heptathlon at the SUNYAC championships where he earned a second-place finish. He also finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters. At the AARTFC Championships Kelly took fifth place in the heptathlon where he scored a total of 4,039 points.

Men's Rookie of the Year - Jonathan Zavala, Brockport 
At the SUNYAC championships, Zavala finished fifth in the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:56.84. Following that, Zavala recorded a time of 1:55:90 at the regional competition to earn a fourth-place finish. He earned All-Region honors in the 800 meter after recording a time of 1:54:60 in prelims at the SUNYAC meet. At the AARTFC Championships, Zavala was part of another school record-setting performance with a men's distance medley relay time of 10:17.37. 

Men's Coaching Staff of the Year – Geneseo  
The Knights coaching staff is led by head coach, Chris Popovici and is assisted by Dan MooreCamille Wutz, Christian Johnson and Ashton Fischer. The Knights won 13 events during the 2022 SUNYAC championship which led them to take home their fifth consecutive and 12th overall conference crown. Following the SUNYAC championship, the Knights brought home one national championship title (Sheridan - 400 meter) and 22 All-Americans finishing in fifth place overall as a team.
