Austin Grunder Named to NABC and D3hoops.com All-America Teams

Cortland Sports Information Department

Cortland junior forward/guard Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) has been chosen as a Division III men's basketball All-American for the 2021-22 season by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the national website D3hoops.com. He was picked to the NABC second team and the D3hoops.com third team.

Grunder is Cortland's first men's basketball All-American since Tom Williams earned NABC second team All-America recognition in 2001 and first team honors in 2000.

Grunder finished the season averaging 22.3 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in 26 starts. His 579 points are the third-highest total in a season in school history. He shot 51 percent from the field overall, 37 percent (40-of-109) from 3-point range and 82 percent (93-of-114) from the foul line.

Grunder scored in double figures in 25 of 26 games and registered 16 double-doubles, including the first triple-double in program history (17 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists in a home win versus Plattsburgh). He eclipsed the 20-point mark 14 times, including more than 30 points on six occasions.

In 51 games over two seasons on the court for the Red Dragons (2019-20 and 2021-22), Grunder has amassed 1,106 points and 656 rebounds. He's only the second player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in his second season of action.

The Red Dragons finished the season 14-12 and qualified for the SUNYAC playoffs for the 31st time in the last 33 seasons with a 10-8 league record. The Red Dragons won seven of their final eight regular-season games to earn their playoff berth, and during that stretch Grunder averaged 29.1 points and 11 rebounds per game.
