SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Brockport's Caroline Stewart as the PrestoSports Women's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week while Cortland's Abby Madigan and Vyda Van Denburg were named the PrestoSports Doubles Team of the Week.
Stewart continues her unbeaten streak in singles, which is now seven straight wins stretching back to the spring season of 2021. Stewart is 4-0 in the second singles slot this fall after winning her matchup in back-to-back matches over the weekend. In a close loss to Cortland for the Golden Eagles, Stewart won her battle 6-2, 6-4. She then dominated her matchup 6-0, 6-0 in the team's win over Oswego the next day. She has yet to surrender a set so far this fall in her second singles role.
Madigan and Van Denburg helped Cortland win two SUNYAC road matches. They won 8-1 at second doubles in a 5-4 victory at Brockport Friday, followed by an 8-1 win at second doubles in a 9-0 victory at Fredonia Saturday. In addition, both were 2-0 in singles play on the weekend - Madigan at #1 and Van Denburg at #3.
