Batcheller Honored with SUNYAC Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) recognizes New Paltz's Onalee Batcheller as the 2022 Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year as nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors. 

Batcheller has a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a junior. In 2022 she was named First-Team All-SUNYAC singles and First-Team All-SUNYAC doubles. Playing at second doubles and third singles this season, Batcheller went undefeated in conference doubles play (8-0) and went 6-1 in SUNYAC singles play. New Paltz was the the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC championship tournament, but lost to Oneonta in the final match, 5-4.

During each season, the conference honors student-athletes for their efforts in their sport, as well as their academics. Out of hundreds of spring athletes, one athlete from each sport was selected for this distinction. In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
