Burgmaster To Take Over as New Director of Athletic Communication and Media Relations

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport welcomes Gil Burgmaster to the athletics staff, where he will take over as the new Director of Athletic Communication and Media Relations. Burgmaster comes to Brockport after holding the role of Associate Athletic Director for Sports Information and External Relations at Utica College for the last 14 years.
 
A Spencerport, N.Y. native, Burgmaster began his journey in athletics at St. John Fisher College where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Communication/Journalism. Post-graduation, he got his first start at his alma mater as the Assistant Sports Information Director, a position he held briefly before getting an opportunity at Utica. Prior to working in Athletic Communications, Burgmaster held multiple positions including Social Media & Website Coordinator for the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, Interim Communication Director of the Empire 8 Conference, and Adjunct Professor of Sports Information and Public Relations at Utica College.
 
While at Utica, Burgmaster was responsible for the promotion of 26 varsity sports and roughly 700 student-athletes, serving in positions from athletic administration and media relations to compliance assistant and marketing. Burgmaster was a driving force for athletic advancement at Utica, where he helped redesign the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium, assisted in a five-year agreement with Nike to outfit sports teams as well as implementing athletic sponsorship. His social media expertise separated record-setting traffic for Utica, ranking them in the top 15 among DIII institutions.
 
Burgmaster's Sports Information highlights include but are not limited to being a three-time host of the NCAA Championship Field Hockey Tournament First Round, hosting the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Hockey National Championship Semifinal and Final, primary contact for the men's hockey team which advanced to the 2013 NCAA DIII Tournament Final Four in Lake Placid, N.Y. as well as 32 NCAA Tournament participants.
 
Burgmaster has held numerous committee positions including, NCAA DIII Women's Lacrosse Regional Advisory Committee member, NCAA DIII Women's Ice Hockey National Committee Member, NCAAA DIII Field Hockey Regional Advisory Committee, ECAC Weekly Awards Selection Committee Member, and Utica College Pioneer Hall of Fame Committee Chair.
