Q&A: Hannah Burchell

CORTLAND, N.Y. - This week's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Q&A is with the PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week, Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point, N.Y.).

Burchell helped lead Cortland to two victories last week, totaling six points on two goals and two assists. In a 3-0 non-conference home win versus Houghton on Wednesday, she tallied the game-winning goal midway through the first quarter and assisted on an insurance goal 31 seconds before halftime. Burchell then netted a goal early in the third quarter and assisted on the game winner 3:31 before the end of the second overtime period as the Red Dragons defeated New Paltz, 3-2, to claim the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament. For the season, Burchell has 21 points on seven goals and a team-high seven assists.

Q&A:

1-Do you have a hidden or special talent?

None

2-Do you have any pre-competition rituals?

One pre-competition ritual I have is I tend to always wear my hair the same way with the same Nike headband.

3-What's your favorite memory since competing for your institution?

One of my fondest memories since competing at Cortland would be when we won the SUNYAC Championship my sophomore year and I contributed 2 goals to the 5-0 win over New Paltz.

4-If you could have one song play every time you score/get a hit/win a race what would it be?

Rock & Roll Part 2 by Gary Glitter

5-If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be there with you, and why?

If I were stranded on an island, I would want to be with my brother Daniel who's a Marine Corp Veteran. I envy his leadership style and skills and would want to learn more from him every day.

6-What is your spirit animal?

Horse

7-What's the best advice anyone has given you?

The best advice anyone has ever given me was from my mom, "Be thankful for the talent you have and the opportunity to use it because some people don't get that in life."

8-What are some things you do to prepare for a game mentally?

Some things I do to prepare for a game is to listen to music while I'm getting ready, this way I can let go of everything else going on and just focus on what's right in front of me without over analyzing anything.

9-Do you have a motto you live by or say to yourself on occasion?

One thing that I started to live by recently was "you don't get this day back." No matter what I will give everything I have because I won't get the chance to go back or play that game again, so I try to make the best of it all.

10-If you could pick one person in the entire world to be a spectator at all of your games who would it be and why?

One person that I would want at all of my games would be my dad. He's helped me grow into the best player I could possibly be, and he has supported me in every way to get to where I am. He's my biggest fan and I wouldn't be where I am without him.
