CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the recipient of the first-ever Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff of the Year award. Geneseo's head coach, Chris Schultz, and assistant coaches, Kris Heeres and Dan Loughran have been chosen to receive this honor as voted on by the conference coaches. 

Schultz and Heeres in their 14th seasons and Loughran in his third season, brought the Knights to a 22-3-2 overall record going into the NCAA tournament. Geneseo controlled the SUNYAC with a 13-1-2 conference record, earning the No. 1 seed going into the SUNYAC playoffs. In the conference semifinals they hosted Potsdam and cruised to a 7-0 win to host the championship game against Oswego. The Geneseo Knights came out with a 4-1 victory giving the coaching staff their third-straight SUNYAC title which was the fourth overall for Schultz and Heeres at Geneseo.

Following the 2019-20 regular season the Geneseo Knights finished ranked the No. 2 team in all of Division III and was the top scoring offense in the nation. While having a successful offense all season, the team also gave up the least amount of goals in the SUNYAC resulting in the Knights having the SUNYAC Co-Goaltender of the Year and the SUNYAC Player of the Year.

Schultz and the coaching staff received an automatic bid into the 2020 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament and were also given a first round bye. They will face the winner of Hobart and Adrain in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
