Cortland wins 2019 women's soccer championship
GENESEO, N.Y. - The second-seeded Cortland (12-5-2) upset No. 1 and host Geneseo (15-3-1), 1-0, in overtime, Saturday to capture the 2019 women's soccer championship title. This is the Red Dragons ninth overall title and first since 2012. With the win Cortland earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore Amanda Lobban (East Greenbush/Columbia) set up the winning goal when she sent a long ball from Cortland's defensive side of the field that Galluzzo tracked down behind the Geneseo defense. Galluzzo dribbled in to the left of the goal and sent a low shot into the right side of the net for her team-high 10th goal of the season to ignite the Cortland celebration.
Cortland goalie Danika Svendsen (Stillwater) made two saves for her sixth shutout of the season. Geneseo goalie Julia McDonald finished with seven saves.
Geneseo had the best scoring chance early when Domenica Piccoli's shot hit the crossbar in the fourth minute. Cortland posted the remaining 10 shots of the first half, three saved by McDonald. The Red Dragons finished the game with a 15-9 edge in shots, including the only shot for either team in overtime, but Geneseo earned five corner kicks to Cortland's two. With just over a minute left in regulation the hosts earned a corner kick and got a shot by Mackenzie Griffin that was turned was for a team save at the left post by freshman Emily Hinck (Farmingdale). Cortland was able to thwart one final Geneseo corner kick to send the game to overtime.
