Geneseo Field Hockey Earns First Round Bye In NCAA Tournament, Will Travel To TCNJ For Second Round Match

GENESEO, N.Y. - After securing an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Champion SUNY Geneseo field hockey team received a first-round bye and will face the winner of Scranton and MIT in the second round, as the 24-team NCAA Tournament field was announced late Sunday night. 

The Knights will battle either the Royals or the Engineers on Saturday, Nov. 16 in a game hosted by The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing, N.J. TCNJ will host the winner of Hartwick and Franklin & Marshall in the other second round game of the pod. The winners of the two second round games will face each other on Sunday, Nov. 17, with an NCAA Semifinal berth on the line. 

Geneseo (18-2) defeated Cortland, 4-3, in double-overtime on Saturday to secure its first SUNYAC Championship since 2016. The Knights earned their third NCAA Tournament appearance and their first second round appearance in program history. in 2010, Geneseo fell to host Stevens, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and dropped a 3-1 contest to host Keene State (N.H.) in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. 

The Knights tied the program record for single-season wins at 18 and have set the program mark with 82 goals this season. Junior forward Haley Clark leads the team with 14 goals and 12 assists for 40 points while first-year forward Maggie Phipps has scored 12 goals and senior forward Erin Nolan has added 11 tallies.
