Third-seeded Buffalo State (15-3) and fourth-seeded Cortland (8-6-3) had to fight to move on to the State University of New York Athletic Conference men's soccer semifinals. Buffalo went into double overtime against No. 6 Brockport and scored at 103:30 to win, 2-1, while Cortland outscored Oswego, 6-5, in a penalty-kick shootout after the teams played to a 1-1 double overtime tie, Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Buffalo State will travel to play No. 2 Plattsburgh and Cortland will play at top-seeded Oneonta, Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the semifinals. Brockport ends its season at 9-8-2 while Oswego finishes the year with a 9-7-2 mark. Men's Soccer Live Bracket
- Brockport controlled the bulk of possession in the opening minutes, but Buffalo State connected on its first chance in the ninth minute when Ali Shawish (Lackawanna, N.Y.) turned on a throw in from Trevor Moreland (Newfane/Newfane) and ripped it into the far upper corner from the top edge of the box. The goal was Shawish's ninth of the season.
- The score stayed 1-0 in favor of the Bengals until Brockport connected on a long throw in and converted a header inside the back post to even the score.
- Chances remained at a premium through the rest of regulation.
- The biggest threat during the opening overtime was a diving save by Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge, N.Y.) that canceled a potential own goal.
- Smith finally ended the game with his second goal of the season three minutes into the second overtime when he blasted a rebound off of a blocked shot from Saleman Salim (Nairobi, Kenya) into the top left corner.
- Queen officially ended with three saves as the Bengals recorded a 15-10 advantage in shot attempts.
- Jeff Hibbard scored the lone goal for Brockport with an assist from Chris Kinsley (Washingtonville, N.Y.).

The teams were scoreless until each scoring in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Cortland took the lead in the 83rd minute when Ivan Dam (Monroe, N.Y.) scored off a crossing pass from Sam Fuller (Liverpool, N.Y.). The Lakers tied the game in the 86th minute on a free kick by Omar Espinoza that found the upper left side of the net.
Each team recorded 18 shots through regulation and the two 10-minute overtime periods. Cortland goalie Braden Melveney (Clay, N.Y.) and Oswego netminder Brian Terra each made five saves.
The teams went to a penalty kick shootout to determine which team advanced in the tournament. Cortland replaced Melveney in net with senior Sean Kelly (Coram, N.Y.) to start the shootout, and he immediately paid dividends by making a diving stop on Oswego's first attempt.
Each team converted its next attempt – Sam Fuller (Liverpool, N.Y. for Cortland and Caleb Asamoah for Oswego – before Cortland missed wide on its next shot and the score was tied at 1-1. The Lakers and the Red Dragons were each successful on their next three kicks (Michael Miner (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Ian Blugh (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Derek Beers (Franklin, N.Y.) for Cortland; Kieran Gilroy, Caleb Munski and Jack Van Pelt for Oswego) to send the shootout to sudden death rounds.
Ryan Young put the pressure on with a conversion for Oswego, but Alik Stasyuk (Syracuse, N.Y.) made his attempt to keep Cortland alive. Kelly made a diving stop on Oswego's next shot to set up a possible Cortland win, but Terra was up to the challenge with a diving rejection of his own to move the shootout into the eighth round. Kelly made his third diving save of the shootout to start the eighth round, and Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) ended the two-hour, 43-minute match with a successful kick during Cortland's half.
