CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Plattsburgh's Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) as its PrestoSports Track Athlete of the Week and Brockport's Chanyce Powell (Albion, N.Y.) as its PrestoSports Field Athlete of the Week.
In her first collegiate track meet, Villemaire set a meet record and participated on a first-place relay, helping Plattsburgh State finish first in the team standings at the Saints Holiday Relays. She finished first in the 500-meter dash with a meet-record time of 1:21.62, and she ran the 400-meter leg on the Cardinals' first-place sprint medley relay (4:45.47). Villemaire then anchored Plattsburgh State's second-place 4x400-meter relay (4:10.00) at the end of the meet, which achieved an AARTFC qualifying time.
Powell had a great start to the season at the Brockport Season Opener with a first place finish in the triple jump and second in the long jump. Her triple jump of 11.17 meters is currently 10th on the indoor national qualifying list and her long jump distance of 5.43 meters is sixth on the qualifying list.
