
Haegele and Culeton named PrestoSports Volleyball Athletes of the Week
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Carly Haegele (Commack, N.Y.) and Clara Culeton (Oswego, N.Y.) as the PrestoSports Volleyball Athletes of the Week. Haegele earned herself the Defensive Athelete of the Week, Culeton is the Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Haegele was named MVP at the Misericordia University Cougar Clash after registering 4.3 digs (47 total) and nine aces in 11 sets during Cortland's four victories at the tournament as the Red Dragons claimed the tournament crown. She had 18 digs and four aces in a three-set win over Misericordia, 12 digs and three aces in a sweep of Elizabethtown, and 14 digs and two aces in a four-set win over York (Pa.). Haegele opened the week Tuesday with 19 digs (6.3 per set) in a three-set sweep at Oswego to open SUNYAC play. Cortland has won 12 straight matches. Cortland plays four games this week, Ithaca, Marymount, Gallaudet and Penn. St. Abington are their opponents.
Junior Culeton, a junior paced Oneonta to a 4-0 record this past week including a 3-1 victory over New Paltz to open SUNYAC play. Culeton finished the week with a team best .446 hitting percentage with 40 kills. Culeton also chipped in the eight service aces and 18 blocks. Oneonta goes on to play Fredonia and Buffalo State this week.
