SUNYAC participates in NCAA DIII Week

SUNYAC participates in NCAA DIII Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - This week, April 13-19, members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) will participate in the ninth annual NCAA Division III Week. Division III Week will provide an opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution or conference to unite and recognize the powerful impact of athletics and student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community as a chance to help carry us through this challenging time. Join the social media dialogue and tell us #whyd3 was the right choice for you or the life lessons learned from being a Division III student-athlete that go beyond the sport itself.

Over the next week, SUNYAC member institutions will offer a variety of opportunities for student-athletes, students, administrators, and faculty to be a part of DIII Week.

Here's a look at what some SUNYAC members have planned:

Buffalo State:

New Paltz:

On Monday, New Paltz released its Chi Alpha Sigma inductees. They will also release question and answers with two of their SAAC (student athlete advisory committee) student-athletes. SAAC members will be releasing additional content about DIII week on their own Instagram accounts.

Oneonta:

Oneonta will be participating and celebrating Division III week with it's fourth annual Yards for Yeardley event. Additionally, 32 students and one faculty member will be inducted to Chi Alpha Sigma National Student Athlete Honor Society this week.

As for community service, SAAC was supposed to be involved in the annual CANstruction event that was to be held at the Southside Mall on Sunday, April 19, but was canceled. Instead, the money that they raised for the purchase of canned goods that would eventually end up at local food pantries, will be donated to a local restaurant Wise Guys and the campus food service provider Sodexo. Wise Guys will use the donated money to purchase a meal for the Fox Hospital ER workers.

Athletic excellence will be continued through the initiative "Word of the Week Fitness Challenge". This initiative was created by the athletic department to help keep members of the campus engaged and fit through an exercise program. Each Friday, a new word is unveiled where the letters of the words correspond to an exercise that can be performed in the confines of someone's home, garage or back yard. The exercises are performed by baseball coach/strength & conditioning coach Ben Grimm.
