CORTLAND, N.Y. - Skylar Bechard (Rialto, Calif.) of Oswego and Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose, NY) of Oneonta were named this week's PrestoSports Volleyball Athletes of the Week. Bechard earned the defensive accolade while Stieglitz was honored for her offensive performance this week.
Sophomore libero Skylar Bechard anchored the Oswego State defense with 30 digs and 11 aces in eight sets of play. She packed the stat sheet against Albertus Magnus with 15 digs, seven assists and six aces. In helping Oswego to a strong start to the season, the Rialto, CA native anchored a defense that held their three opponents to a -.020 attack percentage and only 6.2 kills per set. Bechard put together an all around defensive effort that led Oswego to a 3-0 record on the week and season. B
Senior outside hitter Gillian Stieglitz helped lead Oneonta this weekend with 45 kills with a .402 hitting percentage. Stieglitz averaged 3.46 kills per set while earning five blocks and 10 digs. Gillian's efforts earned her All-Tournament recognition at the Cortland Red Dragon Volleyball Classic. Oneonta finished the weekend 3-1 thanks to the strong offensive efforts from Stieglitz.
