CORTLAND N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Geneseo teammates Mitchell Phelps (Owego, N.Y.) and Corey Wirth (Lima, N.Y.) as this weeks PrestoSports Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week.
Phelps raced in eight events, finishing top five in all of them as the Knights finished second at the Ithaca Winter Invitational over the weekend. Phelps placed fifth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.30 and fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.25. In the 200 back, Phelps placed fourth (1:54.29) and added a third place finish in the 100 fly (50.28). Phelps swam in four of Geneseo's relays, all of which placed second. He swam a leg of the 200 medley relay (1:33.00), 400 medley relay (3:27.21), 400 free relay (3:08.74) and the 800 free relay (7:03.49).
Wirth swept the diving events at the Ithaca Winter Invitational as the Knights placed second out of 10 teams in the three-day event. Wirth finished first in the three-meter dive with a score of 471.70 on Friday night. On Saturday afternoon, he followed that performance with a first-place finish off the one-meter board, scoring 521.55 on 11 dives.
