SUNYAC Announces Women's Swimming and Diving Annual Awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is honored to announce the 2020 SUNYAC women's swimming and diving annual awards. Each year the conference coaches vote on the SUNYAC Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, and Rookie of the Year at the completion of the season. 

Swimmer of the Year: Deidra Osula, Geneseo

For the second year in a row, Deidra Osula (Fredonia, N.Y.) has been voted SUNYAC Swimmer of the Year. During the 2020 SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Osula broke both the meet and conference records in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley. She broke the meet and conference record at the 2019 SUNYAC championships for the 50 free with a time of 23.35 and managed to break it again this year swimming it in 23.25. She posted a 22.69 in the 200 freestyle relay and broke both the meet and conference record in a time of 1:33.98. In the 200 medley, she posted a 22.98 where she broke both the meet and conference record by almost two seconds. She won the 100 butterfly during the meet as well as swimming on two more winning relays, the 400 free relay and the 400 medley relay. Osula was honored with the Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet Award for the second year in a row at the 2020 SUNYAC swimming and diving championships. She also earned a spot on the 2020 SUNYAC Women's Swimming and Diving All-Conference first team. Osula qualified in the 50 free, 200 medley and 200 free for the NCAA Championships that unfortunately did not take place.

 Diver of the Year: Sam Reichman, Geneseo

For the second year in a row, Samantha Reichman (Cornwall, N.Y.) has been named SUNYAC Diver of the Year. Reichman was named SUNYAC Diver of the Week three times this season. During the 2020 SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Reichman went undefeated in both prelims and finals in the 1 meter and 3 meter events. Her final score for the 1 meter dive was a 471.80 while her final score for the 3 meter dive was a 508.75. Based on her performance at the SUNYAC Championships, she earned Outstanding Diver of the Meet for the second year in a row. Reichman was named to the 2020 SUNYAC Women's Swimming and Diving All-Conference first team. Reichman placed second at the NCAA Regional Four Championships in the 1 meter event and was the champion in the 3 meter.

 

 

Rookie of the Year: Leah Bernhardt, Cortland

Cortland's Leah Bernhardt (Groton, N.Y.) has been named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. As a freshman, Bernhardt earned a spot on the 2020 Women's Swimming and Diving All-Conference first team. During the 2020 SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Bernhardt placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.23. She placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.14 and fourth in the 1650 with a time of 17:45.10.
