CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the 2020 men's basketball top individuals and All-Conference teams voted on by the conference coaches.
Player of the Year- Isaiah Brown, Potsdam
Sophomore forward IsaiahBrown led the conference this year averaging 24.2 points per game and also averaged 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season. Brown was named the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week four times this season. He started 18 games for the Bears and totaled 435 points. Brown's career high game was against Oswego where he scored 42 points and had 15 rebounds. Potsdam finished regular season conference play 14-4 to clinch the No. 2 seed and earned a bye into the SUNYAC men's basketball semifinal. The Bears fell to the No. 1 seed, Brockport, in the championship game on Saturday, but Brown was named to the All-Tournament team after totaling 37 points and 10 rebounds in the two games of the tournament.
Rookie of the Year- Austin Grunder, Cortland
Austin Grunder had a double-double in all but three games in his rookie season as he averaged 21.1 points per game and 14.7 rebounds per game. He also added an average of 2.0 assists per game and 0.7 steals per game. Grunder totaled 527 points this season, and scored a season high 35 points against Buffalo State in the regular season. The Red Dragons finished the regular season 11-7 in the conference to earn the fifth seed into post season play. Cortland fell to No. 4 Oswego in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament, 74-6
Coach of the Year- Greg Dunne, Brockport
This season, Brockport men's basketball clinched the SUNYAC regular season title under head coach, Greg Dunne and earned the right to host the 2020 SUNYAC final four. With a 102-75 win against Potsdam on Saturday, the Golden Eagles took home the SUNYAC men's basketball championship title for the ninth time overall and first time since 2014. Dunne coached three athletes to All-Conference recognition and four athletes were named to the Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team including the MVP, Tyler Collins. With the conference championship win, Brockport earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament and will host the first two rounds taking on Coast Guard, Friday at 6:30 p.m.
