Geneseo's McAneny Named CoSIDA Academic All-District
Geneseo Sports Information Department
GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Sean McAneny was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large team, announced on Friday afternoon.
The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. McAneny was one of 11 men's cross country and track & field student-athletes selected from the state of New York for the honor. After being selected All-District, McAneny moves on to the national ballot where he will be considered for Academic All-America status. Only nine Geneseo student-athletes have received Academic All-American distinction. McAneny earned the honor last year while Luke Holtzman '19 and Natalie LaCourt '18 earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors two years ago.
McAneny carried a 3.95 cumulative GPA as he graduated with a degree in English. He recently earned a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in the Czech Republic this summer. A two-time All-American and five-time SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year, McAneny has also served as a research assistant in the English department, a student tutor in the Writing and Learning Center and was inducted to the Sigma Tau Delta Honors Society for English.
McAneny was a part of 10 SUNYAC Championships in his career and was a six-time individual SUNYAC Champion. A four-time SUNYAC Runner of the Year and five-time NCAA Championships qualifier, McAneny holds the school record in the indoor 3000.
If he receives CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the second-straight season, McAneny would become just the third Geneseo student-athlete to earn the award multiple times, joining Brad Campion (men's soccer) and Jack Caradonna (men's ice hockey)
