OSWEGO, N.Y. – For the third-straight year, Oswego State student-athletes gathered at Laker Turf Stadium to partake in LakerLympics. The 2019 version of the event occurred from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15 and had participants from nearly every team from Oswego's 24 NCAA sponsored programs.
Over the course of the day, the student-athletes competed against one another in five events: tug of war, water balloon toss, three-legged race, relay race and a watermelon eating contest. The men's soccer team was crowned the champions, dethroning the baseball team, who won the second LakerLympics in the fall of 2018. Men's swimming and wrestling came in second and third, respectively.
Aside from the opportunity for all the Lakers to bond was a greater cause, as the student-athletes collected non-perishable items for the Human Concern Center of Oswego. The athletes will donate three filled large totes of non-perishables to the Human Concern Center on Friday.
LakerLympics is organized and executed by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) each year. The inaugural event took place in the spring of 2018 as part of NCAA Division III Week.
