New Paltz Sports Information Department

SUNY New Paltz student athletes helped set up tents and tables at the annual book fair, while also aiding in unloading books and categorizing them. The Hawks then stayed the entirety of the time to help break down and clean up afterwards.

"It was great to see the unity amongst the various sports teams in an effort to collaborate and give back to the community in such a meaningful way," said Hawks women's tennis junior Emma Messenger. "It makes what we do worth it and it was nice to see all the teams working together and come together as student-athletes as a whole for the common good of the community." 
 
There was a great turnout for the annual book fair and the SUNY New Paltz student-athletes were happy to help, as it was also a great way to give back while also creating more team bonding. 
 
"It was awesome seeing all of the teams come together off the field to help support our community," said SUNY New Paltz field hockey junior forward Carly Croteau. "It is also additional team bonding that truly benefits our teams and others around us. By working with the other sports teams on campus allows us to establish a true athletic community as well."
 
"There was a large turnout with people from all ages who attended the fair, which reinforced how important it is for us to represent our school in a positive light and the people who organized it expressed how appreciative they were of the work we were doing," added Hawks baseball junior infielder John McCarrick.
 
SAAC hopes to continue organizing community service efforts throughout the academic year. Next up for the Hawks is the annual community leaf rake.
