CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce its 2019 Men's Fall Scholar Athlete of the Year honorees. During each season, the conference recognizes student-athletes for their efforts in their sport, as well as their academics. Out of hundreds of fall athletes, one athlete from each sport was selected for this distinction.
In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award originated in 2016-17.
Sean McAneny, Geneseo - Cross Country
The senior English major maintains a 3.95 cumulative GPA at Geneseo. McAneny is a two-time SUNYAC Runner of the Year and he placed first at the SUNYAC Championships for the second year in a row. He finished second at the Atlantic Regionals and qualified for NCAA Championships. McAneny was honored on the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-American first team.
Kevin Doorley, New Paltz - Men's Soccer
The junior finance major holds a 3.80 overall GPA at New Paltz. Doorley earned his second-straight United Soccer Coaches Association All-East Region selection this season and he was also named as the Scholar All-Region recipient. Doorley was named to the All-Conference first team for the second-straight year after leading his team in points (20) and assists (10), while starting all 17 games and was second on the team in minutes played (1,344).
