CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named Geneseo's Maggie Phipps (Fairport, N.Y.) and Cortland's Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown, N.Y.) its PrestoSports Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
Phipps scored 13 points in a pair of victories last week to help Geneseo extend its winning streak to 11 (14-2). She tied the program record with four goals (all in the second half) of the Knights' 6-2 win over visiting Oneonta on Saturday. Phipps also scored two goals, including the game-tying tally in the 50th minute, and assisted the deciding tally in Wednesday's 4-3 win at Utica. She is currently tied for first in the SUNYAC with 10 goals and is ranked second with 25 points.
D'Amico helped lead the Red Dragons (11-3) to a 3-2 shootout victory at Hartwick on Wednesday, stopping 15 shots during regulation and the two overtime periods to record a 1.50 GAA and an .882 save percentage. D'Amico then sealed the victory with a diving stop across the goal mouth on Hartwick's final shootout attempt. The win for Cortland was a single-season school-record seventh in overtime this season. For the year, D'Amico has posted an 11-3 record with a 1.25 GAA, 118 saves and an .868 save percentage.
