SUNYAC Commissioner's Cup Standings after Fall 2021
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After the completion of the 2021 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) fall championships, Cortland is at the top of the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 8.92 points. Geneseo is second and New Paltz is third.
The cup was named after Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 following his retirement as the SUNYAC Commissioner. Dr. Damore served in the position for 33 years.
Cortland finished the regular-season ranked in the top three in field hockey, men's and women's soccer and volleyball and all four teams advanced to the championship. Men's soccer captured its 19th overall crown while volleyball won its 20th overall title. Cortland men's cross country team finished second in the championship meet and the women were fourth.
Geneseo won both the men's and women's cross country championship team titles this season. The Knights advanced to post season play in field hockey, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Women's soccer went on to win the league championship for the ninth time in program history. Geneseo's women's volleyball team advanced to the championship match, but fell short to Cortland, 3-1.
New Paltz's field hockey team finished the regular-season undefeated in conference play, 6-0, and went on to win the SUNYAC championship title for the sixth time overall. The Hawks men's and women's soccer and volleyball teams all advanced to the post season and both men's and women's cross country teams finished fifth in the championship meet.
The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
