Nicholas Jallat Joins Red Dragons Staff as Interim Sports Information Director

Oneonta Sports Information Department

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics Ryan Hooper has announced the hiring of Nicholas Jallat as the Interim Sports Information Director, who will begin immediately. Jallat steps into the role following the retirement of Assistant Director of Athletics and Sports Information Director Geoff Hassard, who served in the position for 23 years.

"The Athletic Department is excited to announce Nick Jallat as our new Sports Information Director," said Hooper. "Nick comes to Oneonta with exceptional athletic communications experience at both the Division III and Division I levels. His strong background in graphic design will continue to enhance an already well-established sports information department. I'm looking forward to working with Nick and his vision for this area as he continues to promote our student-athletes and athletic department."

Jallat joins Oneonta following four years at Vassar College, where he was the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. During his time there, Jallat worked with Vassar's 27 teams, providing gameday statistics, department publications, and media productions while increasing the department's social media presence. In 2021, Jallat was the communications representative when Vassar hosted the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. He also trained and supervised student-workers as photographers, PA announcers, camera operators, and broadcasters for events.

Jallat previously served as an athletic communications assistant at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, working with all 24 varsity sports regarding stats, game-day coverage, and website maintenance. He also created and managed the college's official athletics Instagram account, which now has over 1,000 followers.

"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Ryan Hooper for giving me the opportunity to join the Oneonta athletics department as its new Sports Information Director," said Jallat. " I am looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to help to increase the exposure and attention for the Oneonta athletics and campus community. Oneonta has an excellent reputation on and off the field, and I am excited to continue all the hard work Geoff has done for the Red Dragons."

Before King's, Jallat was the athletic communications historical research intern at Harvard University. He mainly prepared and maintained the athletic department's Hall of History, an interactive display showcasing Harvard's athletic history from its beginnings. This included writing content, creating graphics, and updating statistics and records.

Before his time at Harvard, Jallat served in the athletic communications department at Yale University, where he assisted in writing feature stories, preparing media credentials, and covering football, men's ice hockey, and men's lacrosse games. Jallat served a similar role at Southern Connecticut State University while keeping score for all volleyball contests and filming highlights for men's and women's soccer, football, and field hockey.

Jallat began his professional career in athletics as an assistant coach for the cross country and track teams at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT, where he organized practices and recorded all times.

A native of Seymour, CT, Jallat was a four-year member of the King's College cross country and track teams. He earned his bachelor's degree in professional writing and English literature from King's in 2014 and graduated from Messiah College with a master's in college athletic management in May 2017.
