#16 Cortland Falls at #7 TCNJ, 13-6; Ties for 9th Nationally

EWING, N.J. – Nationally seventh-ranked The College of New Jersey scored five consecutive goals over a 12 minute, 30 second stretch spanning the second and third quarters to break open a tight game and earned a 13-6 victory versus 16th-ranked Cortland Saturday afternoon in the third round of the NCAA Div. III Tournament. The Red Dragons had their 16-game winning streak snapped, finishing the season at 17-5 and tied for ninth nationally. The Lions improved to 17-2 and advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Sophomore Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) led Cortland with two goals. Seniors Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Hanna Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) each recorded one goal and one assist. Graduate student Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and senior Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) netted one goal apiece, and junior Madelyn Czyz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) registered two assists.

Graduate student Paige Potter (Cortland) made a career-high 17 saves in goal for the Red Dragons. Hoeffner won three draw controls and scooped up two ground balls. Keech collected three ground balls, and Cashman, Czyz and sophomore Allie Alaimo (Wantagh) each secured two ground balls.

Anna Devlin paced the Lions' offense with five goals and one assist. Anna Wright tallied three goals and two assists, Ally Tobler finished with three goals and one assist, and Natalie Berry and Wayden Ay each chipped in with a goal.

Goalie Julia Charest turned aside eight shots and scooped up four ground balls for TCNJ. Sabrina Phillips won eight of the Lions' 18 draws, while Jillian Westerby grabbed four draws and Devlin added three. Sophia Pappalardo collected a game-high six ground balls. Tobler contributed three ground balls and Madison Wernik caused two turnovers and won two draws.

The Red Dragons took a 2-0 just just past the midway point of the opening quarter as Hoeffner scored at 13:33 and Lorenzen notched her goal at the 6:32 mark. The Lions answered with three straight goals from three different players to close the quarter with a 3-2 lead. Wright wrapped a pair of goals around Cashman's first goal of the game before Hopsicker scored at 9:43 of the second quarter to make it a 5-4 game in favor of TCNJ. The Lions, however, netted three goals in less than three minutes to open up an 8-4 lead at the break.

Devlin and Ay scored early goals in the third quarter to push TCNJ's advantage to 10-4. Cashman's second goal at the 3:30 mark made it a 10-5 game, but Tobler sent the Lions up 11-5 heading into the fourth quarter with her third goal of the game at 1:56. Keech netted her goal at 10:44 of the fourth quarter, but Devlin completed the scoring with back-to-back goals at 7:52 and 4:26, respectively, for the 13-6 final
