Cortland Voted SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces Cortland as the recipient of the 2022 Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff of the Year award which is voted on by the conference coaches.

Joe Cardarelli is in his eighth year (including the canceled 2020-21 season) as Cortland's head coach and is assisted by Stephen Castriota and Nick Harper. Cortland finished the regular season as the fourth seed (9-5-2) going into the SUNYAC tournament. The Red Dragons defeated Fredonia in the SUNYAC first round, 5-1, but fell to second-seeded Oswego, 4-0, in the semifinals. The staff coached three All-SUNYAC student-athletes, including Luca Durante who was named the SUNYAC Goaltender of the Year and the Co-Herb Hammond Player of the Year. The team finished the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 15-10-2. The 15 wins are the second most in program history, and the team set single-season team records with a 2.30 GAA, a .933 save percentage, an .869 penalty-kill percentage and nine wins in conference play.
