Geneseo No. 1 in 2021 SUNYAC Preseason Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Geneseo, the 2021 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) softball champions, takes the No. 1 spot in the 2022 preaseason poll while Cortland was voted No. 2 followed by Buffalo State. 

The Knights won their third overall SUNYAC softball team title last season after beating Cortland in the championship series. Geneseo earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and went 1-2, beating Stevens Institute and falling to Rochester and York. The team finished the 2021 season 17-10 overall.

Cortland will look to take back the SUNYAC crown this season after winning five titles in the last ten years and 16 overall. The Red Dragons ended the 2021 season 20-10 overall.

Buffalo State's 2021 post-season conference run took them to the semifinal series where they beat Cortland in the first game, 6-3, but then lost the next two games 7-6 and 18-6. This season the Bengals will be looking to win their fifth overall championship title and first since 2009.

The softball regular season conference games will start April 1-2 and the 2022 SUNYAC softball championship is set for May 5-8.
