Geneseo Women's Lacrosse Advances To Second Round Of The NCAA Tournament With 19-2 Win Over Saint Joseph's

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team earned their first win in the NCAA tournament since 2014 in dominant fashion as they took out St. Joseph's (ME) by a score of 19-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first-year duo of Molly Brown and Madelynn Brown wasted no time getting the Knights offense going as they combined to score the first four goals of the game in the opening five and a half minutes. After graduate attacker Hannah Marafioti made it a 5-0 lead, Molly Brown tacked on two more goals for a 7-0 advantage and four first-period goals.
- Geneseo showed no signs of slowing up in the second quarter as they added six more goals and took a 13-2 lead into halftime.
- The third quarter saw five different goal scorers for the Knights as Madelynn Brown, Megan Henderson, Emma Gaenzle, Maura McCabe, and April Rowell all added to the lead.
- Geneseo's defense continued their impressive performance in the second half as they did not allow a goal for the final 30 minutes to help seal the 19-2 win.
QUICK FACTS
- The Knights are now 3-2 all-time in the NCAA tournament, with wins over Susquehanna and Stevenson in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
- Madelynn Brown posted a game-high seven points with four goals and three assists, while Molly Brown led the scoring with five goals. Marafioti also chipped in five points with one goal and four assists.
- Emily DeJohn got the start and the win in goal, while Margaret Rosaschi played the second half and tallied three saves in a shutout effort.
