SUNYAC Announces 2022 Women's Lacrosse Top Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its 2022 annual women's lacrosse league awards including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches.

Offensive Player of the Year: Hannah Marafioti, Geneseo

Marafioti, a graduate student, leads the league with 100 points so far this season with 57 goals (second in the conference) and a conference high 43 assists. She was also awarded PrestoSports Athlete of the Week honors twice this season. Marafioti helped lead the Knights to second place after regular-season conference play and made it to the SUNYAC final.

Defensive Player of the Year:  Meg Seeley, Geneseo

Seeley was a major defensive player that helped hold Geneseo's opponents to a 9.11 goals against average. The Knights are 14-3 overall so far this season and went 8-1 in regular-season conference play. Seeley has 38 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers which is the second most in the conference. 

Rookie of the Year: Madelynn Brown, Geneseo

In her rookie season as a Knight, Brown currently has 60 points with 44 goals and 16 assists. Brown also earned PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week this season. Brown will be heading to the NCAA Division III Tournament in her first year after Geneseo earned an at-large bid. The Knights will travel to Middlebury College and will take on St. Joseph's (ME) in the first round on May 14.

Coaching Staff of the Year – Cortland

Head coach Kelsey Van Alstyne along with assistant coaches Emily Bitka and Blair Rosenberg led the Red Dragons to their 23rd overall SUNYAC championship crown. In her first year as head coach, Van Alstyne and staff earned the No. 1 seed into the SUNYAC tournament and have an overall record of 15-4. Following the conference championship win, the Red Dragons received an automatic berth into the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament and will face Western Connecticut State University, Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m.
