SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named Cortland's Colton Smith and Justin Wainwright the PrestSports Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Athlete of the Week respectively.
Smith helped lead nationally 16th-ranked Cortland to a 14-9 season-opening win at home versus Skidmore on Saturday afternoon. He matched his career high with six points on three goals and three assists and added four ground balls and one caused turnover as the Red Dragons used a late six-goal run to pull away from an 8-8 tie in earning the victory.
Wainwright helped guide the Red Dragons to a 14-9 victory over Skidmore at home on Saturday. He recorded game highs of seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Cortland used a six-goal run to break an 8-8 second-half tie in securing the win.
