SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named Cortland's Hanna Corrigan the PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive Athlet eof the Week and Geneseo's Olivia Vinciguerra the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Corrigan registered nine points on three goals and three assists to help lead 18th-ranked Cortland to a pair of wins last week, extending the Red Dragons record to 10-0 on the season, the program's best start since opening the 2009 campaign with 19 consecutive victories. In a 4-2 home non-conference win versus St. Lawrence on Wednesday, Corrigan scored Cortland's third goal of the game. She then tallied a career-high seven points on two goals and three assists in a 7-1 win at Brockport on Saturday as Cortland improved to 3-0 in the SUNYAC. For the season, Corrigan is second on the team in scoring with 23 points on nine goals and five assists and is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals.
Vinciguerra led the Knights to a pair of shutout wins with stout defensive performances. Vinciguerra anchored a Knights' back line that allowed just one shot on goal over the team's two games. Geneseo defeated Nazareth, 1-0, on Tuesday and earned a 5-0 shutout of Morrisville on Saturday. The Geneseo defense ranks second in the conference, allowing opponents just 1.23 goals per game and is tied for the conference best allowing just 53 shots on goal.
