Juliette Frischmann's Two Goals Lead Knights to NCAA Tournament Win Over Conn. College
Geneseo Sports Information Department
CRANTON, P.A. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a comeback 2-1 victory over Connecticut College. Sophomore forward Juliette Frischmann scored both goals for the Knights.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo suffered an early blow as they allowed the Camels to get on the board in just the seventh minute of play. Despite the slow start, the Knights began to settle down and get their offense going as the half went on and tallied five shots in the first half.
- With time winding down before halftime, sophomore defensive back Haylee Evertsen took a free kick in the 44th minute and played it perfectly inside the box. Frischmann was able to get to the ball just in time and touch it around the Conn. College goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1.
- The Knights kept that offensive momentum rolling into the second half and they were able to keep the ball on the Camels side of the field for the majority of the half. They eventually broke through in the 78th minute of action to take the lead.
- Junior forward Lindsay Wright placed a great pass through the Conn. College defense to Frischmann, who made a tough play to get it around the goalkeeper and give Genseo the 2-1 lead. The Knights had a few more chances to extend their lead before the final whistle, but didn't need the insurance goal as the defense buckled down to secure the win.
QUICK FACTS
- Junior goalkeeper Angel Bennett tallied eight saves to earn the win in net.
- The 2-1 win marks the first win in regulation for the women's soccer program in the NCAA tournament and improved their record 4-7-4 all-time.
