
SUNYAC Honors Men's Soccer All-Conference Selections
SYRACUSE N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has released its 2021 Men's Soccer All-Conference teams and top award winners as voted on by the conference coaches. Oneonta's Lucas Feeci and Tristan Battistoni were named the Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year and the Fred Holloway Defensive Player of the Year respectively. Joseph DiPreta from New Paltz was voted the Rookie of the Year. Cortland was honored with he Coaching Staff of the Year.
Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year - Lucas Fecci, Oneonta
Fecci is currently tied second in the conference with 26 points overall and fourth with 11 goals. He helped lead his team to a 6-2-1 record in regular-season conference play to earn the third-seed going into the league tournament. Oneonta tied Oswego in the first round, 1-1, but lost the game on penalty kicks, 5-4. The Red Dragons earned an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament with a 10-3-3 overall record. The team will travel to Franklin and Marshall in Lancaster, PA to face Middlebury in the first round on Saturday, November 13.
Fred Holloway Defensive Player of the Year - Tristan Battistoni, Oneonta
Battistoni helped lead a defense that allowed just 15 goals in 16 games overall this season. The Red Dragons were ranked No. 3 after regular-season conference play and although they fell short losing in the first round of the conference tournament, their season will continue with an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. This will be Oneonta's ninth NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament appearance.
Rookie of the Year - Joseph DiPreta, New Paltz
DiPreta started all 17 games his rookie season and helped his team finish 12-5 overall. At midfield he contributed nine points with three goals and two assists. He was part of a team that allowed its opponents just 0.71 goals per game (12 goals in 17 games). The Hawks finished the regular-season ranked No. 2 in the conference, but was upset by No. 6 Oswego in the semifinals, 1-0.
Coaching Staff of the Year - Cortland
Cortland's head coach Steve Axtell is assisted by Sean Streb and Drew Francisco. The Red Dragons staff led their team to the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular-season 8-1 in conference play. Cortland defeated Buffalo State and Oswego to win its 19th overall conference title and first since 2016. Seven Red Dragons were honored on the All-Conference team this season. With the conference championship win, the team earned an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament for the 23rd time in program history. Cortland will host Nazareth in the first round Saturday, November 13.
