SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named New Paltz's Morgan Woolley the PrestoSports Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week while Cortland's Megan McGuinness earned the defensive accolade for the third time this season.
Woolley has head a breakout first year for the Hawks, as the sophomore currently leads the team in goals (six) and points (15) after adding three more goals and an assist this past week in what was a dominating performance by SUNY New Paltz. Woolley scored was involved in all three goals in a 3-0 win over RPI Wednesday. She scored the opening goal late in the first quarter to get the offense started, then assisted on another before halftime to give her team a 2-0 lead. She then topped off the night with an unassisted goal in the third quarter to help solidify the win. Against the Golden Eagles, the sophomore secured her first SUNYAC goal in the third quarter to push her team up 3-0 in the eventual 4-0 victory.
McGuinness posted a 2-0 record with a 1.00 GAA, 15 saves and an .882 save percentage as 20th-ranked Cortland improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC with a pair of home conference wins last week. In a 3-1 victory versus Oneonta on Wednesday, she turned aside four shots. McGuinness followed up with a career-high 11 saves as the Red Dragons defeated Geneseo, 5-1, on Saturday. For the season, McGuinness has posted an 8-0 record with a 1.02 GAA, 45 saves and an .849 save percentage.
